EATON FIRE SENIOR SUMMIT WAS A SMASHING SUCCESS!

Community Women Vital Voices and Leaders Announce Inaugural Eaton Fire Rebuild Senior Summit Series hosted at First AME Church-Pasadena, CA – March 31, 2025 – The inaugural Eaton Fire Rebuild Senior Summit Series took place on Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at First AME Church, located at 1700 N. Raymond in Pasadena. Breakfast and lunch were provided. This event was free to the public. The first summit in this important series focused on INSURANCE and whether to opt in or out of the Government-Run Debris Removal Program, and the due date was April 15. The Summit also provided essential support and resources for seniors affected by the Eaton Canyon Fire disaster, with an emphasis on navigating insurance processes, SBA, and FEMA services. Participants had the opportunity to hear from a range of expert speakers and service providers dedicated to assisting seniors in their rebuilding journey. Key speakers at the summit included Congressmember Judy Chu; Councilmember Tyron Hampton; Julia Svetlana Juarez, Deputy Commissioner, California Department of Insurance; Aimee Griffin, Esq., Principal, Life & Legacy Counselors, Founder, National Association of Black Estate Planning Professionals; Lori Gay, President & CEO, Neighborhood Housing Services of LA County; Adai Lamar, KJLH Radio Personality served as the Mistress of Ceremonies - all offered vital insights into Housing, the insurance process and the US Army Corp. Opt-In or Out program. The event featured a “Vendor’s Village,” highlighting a variety of services and information specifically tailored for seniors. In addition to insurance issues, the summit also covered legal guidance, health concerns, and environmental questions related to the Eaton Fire Rebuild process. Representatives from FEMA, the County Assessor's office, and the Small Business Administration (SBA) were present in the Village to provide assistance. Attendees also visited the quiet space for mental and emotional counseling, addressing the holistic needs of those impacted by the fire. There was a beautiful dance performance by Elizabeth Ellis, a senior who teaches dance classes in the community. Concierge/Coaches Served the Seniors by answering questions and providing support. The Eaton Fire Senior Summit Concierge/Coaches was designed to support seniors during this challenging time. Seniors teamed up with coaches for personal assistance with complex matters. Our team of compassionate coaches was trained to guide seniors through each step, from navigating insurance claims to coordinating with contractors. We are committed to ensuring that seniors feel confident and empowered as they embark on their journey to rebuild their homes and lives. This summit marks the beginning of an ongoing series focused on pertinent rebuild topics. Participants will gain invaluable tools and knowledge to help them navigate the complexities of the rebuilding process. The Eaton Fire Senior Summit Series was created by a dedicated group of First Ladies from local churches, Female Pastors, non-profits, and service organizations, all committed to providing comprehensive assistance and support to seniors who may face challenges navigating government-run facilities."This summit is a vital step in helping our seniors regain their footing after the devastation of the Eaton Canyon Fire," said President/CEO Lena Louise Kennedy. "We are committed to providing them with long-term resources and support they need to rebuild their lives."Our April 12 Summit provided the knowledge and support needed in the aftermath of the Eaton Canyon Fire. David Kustoff (TN-08) and Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) to announce the introduction of the bipartisan Filing Relief for Natural Disasters Act, which would provide relief for impacted taxpayers in states that have issued state-level disaster declarations.
